Characters for Judging Prudence

I'm one of those writers who needs pictures of the characters I have in my head. And because I'm having a lot of trouble with Pinterest these days, (maybe I should have my 12 year old daughter post them for me) I thought I would show them to you here first. Besides, I finally was able to view the boards I have, and if you don't know where to look, you won't know who half of them are. The perils of modern technology.

Anyway... These are the characters for JUDGING PRUDENCE.

Lady Prudence Shaffer is the most disliked of all the Dunbury Ladies. She holds no regard for the feelings of others; her caustic tongue and acerbic wit leaves her friendless save for her sister. No one understands the cause for Prudence’s bad manners. She was raised to be a lady, after all.

Alexander Lowell, Viscount Abernathy, dares to brave her criticisms, sees through the veneer she has painted herself with, and finds her attractive enough to court. He realizes he must tame her wicked language if he wishes his mother to consent to a marriage between them.

However, one iniquitous remark at a ball about Lady Lowell has left Prudence dealing with its after effects. She is shunned within Society and her remaining unmarried cousins along with her. A simple apology will not suffice—Lady Lowell refuses to hear it, or allow her son to marry her.

Prudence must change her disapproving ways if she wants her heart’s desire.

It is not as easy as she thinks when no one believes she can.

When All Hope Is Lost Paperback is Published

Shame on me. I uploaded all the other books to paperback last summer and never got around to finishing the job. Well, I did it this week, and after reviewing and approving the proof, I can proudly say, The Reluctant Grooms series is complete.

Lady Olivia is a woman bereft—she’s lost the man she loved, her home of nearly forty years, and her title. Never one to back down from a fight, this time she walks away. There’s nothing left for her in London. She plans to live out the rest of her solitary life at a quaint little estate near Brighton.

Until the unthinkable happens and the man of her dreams walks through her front door.

I loved writing that book. I loved getting into the mind of John David Quiggins. I loved researching and writing about how he rescued the Princesses from Spain. I made it very difficult, but Quiggins is a tough guy. And when he gets back, he has a little espionage of his own.

I received a review from a woman who said she liked reading about middle-aged people in love. I liked writing about Olivia's heartbreak. She accepted two proposals on the same night. And even though she loved both of them, she ended up alone. She got what she deserved.  For awhile. I couldn't let her go on without a happy ending.

I'm working with a box supplier to have a true "boxed set." The complete Reluctant Grooms series in paperback in a box. It would make a lovely gift to your favorite Regency romance reader. I'll let you know when I have the information.

I've been doing some photo hunting to find pictures of the new characters. Once I have them all together, I'll start creating storyboards on Pinterest. Hoping by next weekend.

I cannot tell you when the new book will be out. I've been working on it for nearly two years. But believe it or not, it's not that easy to write. There's a lot of backstory that needs to be figured out, Henry's, the girls, Catherine, even the servants. And then I have to somehow interweave some characters from the Reluctant Grooms into the mix as well. I could just as easily write stand-alone novels, but I like the challenge. Sorry it's taking me so long to get to it.

Pinterest as a Writing Tool

Yes, I'm on Pinterest. I have several boards, as a matter of fact, if you haven't been to my page, you'll see that I have all of my books as boards -- who I think my characters could be, and recently I've added where they live. And a few miscellaneous boards that I've been adding to as I go along. 

Some of my friends say they were disappointed they looked at the characters BEFORE they read my books, they didn't picture the characters quite that way, and others have said my "people" were spot on. I guess it's up to you whether you look or not.

However, what I've found is that Pinterest is an outlet for me that allows my left brain (right brain? I get them mixed up lol) to be creative artfully. Allow me to explain -- when I write, I stare at a blank white page, and type in black font. No color, no shape, no soul, as it were. Whereas on Pinterest, I get to "play" with art in all forms, design my boards, use my imagination to the best of its ability.

I don't use it often, mainly when I find pictures that go along with my stories. I don't go to Pinterest and spend hours and hours searching for things. I don't generally "pin" other peoples pictures to my boards (unless I find one that really speaks to me, like my new Heroes Board. But quite honestly, that was a one time thing.) I suppose if I were more technologically minded, I would pin everything I see, but I haven't quite figured out how to do it.

Before I found Pinterest, I had all my characters on my blog in posts. But if you missed a post, then you would miss the characters and then have to search for them. Now, they're all there in one place with one click.  

I showed my page to the secretary at school the other day and she was very impressed. She said, "Oh, this is fabulous, now I can click on the link as I'm reading the book and see who you're writing about. It's like a movie without the cinema." Yeah, something like that.

I'm on Pinterest, Pricing Changes, and Other News

I've been meaning to mention this for sometime now and keep forgetting. I recently changed all the pricing on my paperback versions from $14.99 to $12.99 with the exception of THE LADY'S MASQUERADE which is now $10.99.

I've also brought the price down on the e-versions of A
ROMANTIC REGENCY COLLECTION to $1.99. Four novellas for the price of two.

And I also brought down the price of THE EARL'S ENGAGEMENT to $2.99. So I hope if you haven't read it yet, you will.

I've also finally put this into paperback.







If you didn't know this, and I'm sure you didn't because I've only mentioned it once in a teeny tiny little aside at the bottom of a post, I'm on Pinterest. I have all my books there, with pictures of my characters, or rather, who I'd like to think they are.

I recently added LADY CADORET'S LONGING (something I've been meaning to do for awhile and just haven't been able to get to it. It took me awhile to find the right pictures of Edward and Daniel.

And I found some pictures of houses where I think my characters might live so I added those to my boards as well.

I'm in the process of making boards for the other books that will (hopefully) be coming out this fall. (see below)

In other news, I've also started on THE LADY'S SECRET, a prequel to THE SEDUCTION OF MR. SUMMERVILLE. Falling asleep one night, I thought of the most fabulous opening lines and jumped out of bed to write them down. When I transposed them into my file on the computer, I felt compelled to keep writing. The word count is not very high, but it is a start.

I've also begun another novella, LADY OLIVIA'S UNDOING, another prequel to THE SEDUCTION OF MR. SUMMERVILLE. This one deals exclusively from Lady Olivia's viewpoint. And I believe this novella will make a few readers go hmmmm.... I love Lady Olivia and knowing she carries a great secret, I've been wanting to spill it for some time. In this little tome, you find out what it is, and as Lady Olivia's world falls apart, you get to see how she does or does not cope.

I would like to say the Not So Secret Story Project is done, but it's not. Not too much longer now to go and I do need to have it done by the 22 so I'm working day and night to finish it up. Then it's off to the critique partners and beta readers for consideration, then we revise and hopefully format for publication. Soon, very soon.

And then I will be working on THE CAPTAIN'S LADY, book two of The Reluctant Grooms series. This book has been sitting on my hard drive for almost 8 years and in such a state of disrepair, it's much like the first version of THE LADY'S MASQUERADE. I need to really get in there and revise it. Hopefully, that won't take too long. I'm hoping by Thanksgiving.

And then we're onto the final books in the series and will hopefully wrap this up in the Spring of 2014.

After that, I have another series planned. I think. I'm working on the outline now. But I'm not really looking into that for some time. Maybe after next summer.
